Your team
You will be part of the Language Services Division in the Directorate General Communications. Our work covers a wide range of texts for both expert audiences and the general public, including multilingual content for our website aimed at making the ECB's work accessible to non-expert readers.
As a trainee Italian Translator, you will join a small team of Italian translators who, together with the translators of other languages, are responsible for communicating the ECB's messages to almost 350 million Europeans who do not have English as their first language. You will help produce ECB communications in Italian, working closely with language technologists/terminologists and our administrative team, as well as experts from other ECB business areas.
The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.
Your role
As a trainee Italian Translator you will:
- translate texts from English into Italian;
- revise and proofread texts in Italian;
- help to identify, extract and compile terminology, particularly in the fields of economics and finance;
- align previously translated documents so they can be added to our translation memory databases.
The position offers you excellent opportunities to use state-of-the-art language technology tools in your daily work and to gain an insight into language services activities in an EU institution. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a bachelor's degree or higher in translation or interpreting;
- knowledge of computer-assisted translation tools;
- a mastery-level (C2) command of Italian (native speaker standard) and an advanced (C1) command of English, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- a master's degree (completed or in the final stages of completion) in translation, or any other field combined with postgraduate studies in translation;
- an interest in financial and economic affairs;
- an intermediate (B1) command of another official EU language.
You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people's diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.
You are motivated to contribute to the ECB's mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
